The Cafe Central is one of the most famous, beautiful and thus most frequently tourist-visited coffee houses in Austria.
Built by Heinrich Ferstel, it is located in the Vienna city center as part of the beautiful Palais Ferstel. Once it has been a hot spot for intellectuals (e.g. frequently visited by Schnitzler, Trotzki, Zweig and Freud) it is now so crowded on some days that one has to wait in line for a free table. Which is definitely worth it, since it is a unique experience to be in this impressive architectural masterpiece with cathedral-like pillars and ceilings and choose from a fine offer of coffee and famous Austrian pastry, while listening to the classical music from the piano player.
